Ryland Phillip Kagan, MD

As a Portland native, Dr. Ryland Kagan knows the unique importance of mobility for his fellow Oregonians. “Whether you have your sights set on summiting South Sister or you would like to walk to the grocery store without hip or knee discomfort, my objective is to help you reach your personal health goals,” he says.
Dr. Kagan provides care to patients with hip and knee arthritis; non-operative care, partial knee replacement and total knee and hip replacement surgery. Additionally, he is a specialist in the field of hip preservation surgery — treating adolescent and young adults with hip dysplasia or other congenital and acquired disorders of the hip.
“I am blessed to be able to serve my fellow Oregonians and provide care to help patients achieve their personal health goals,” he says.
After completing medical school at Albany Medical College, Dr. Kagan completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Oregon Health and Science University, where he remains an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation. He also completed a fellowship in adult joint reconstruction and hip preservation at the University of Utah.
When he’s not busy helping his patients enjoy their best life, Dr. Kagan enjoys spending time with his family and his two rescue dogs camping, hiking and biking.
“In my free time I am an enthusiastic albeit mediocre snowboarder and surfer,” he says. “I am a proud 2-time greater Portland soccer district, and softball city league champion.”
