Paula S Newman, PsyD

Paula S. Newman, PsyD is a clinical psychologist licensed in California since 2002. Throughout her career, Dr. Newman has had the opportunity to provide psychotherapy in numerous settings including community mental health, pain management, geriatric and rehabilitative psychology, private practice and forensic settings. Dr. Newman’s work has focused on serving those often overlooked in our society and those who may have difficulty accessing needed mental health treatment.

With experience including individual, couples and family therapy, Dr. Newman specializes in treatment of trauma-related symptoms, depression, anxiety, relationship issues and life transitions and often cares for patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She has training and experience in techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Bowenian Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Therapy.

“Life can be hard for all of us at times,” Dr. Newman explains about her work as a psychologist. “I enjoy meeting new people and helping them to live happier and more fulfilled lives.” Because therapy success is closely linked to the quality of the therapeutic relationship, Dr. Newman focuses on establishing trust and tailoring treatment to meet the unique needs of each patient, couple or family.

In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Newman has trained multiple pre-licensed clinicians. She has also presented trainings at local psychological associations and at the California Psychological Association annual conference.

Dr. Newman enjoys living close to the mountains, lakes and many outdoor activities of the Sierra foothills with her two horses and three dogs.
