About The Provider
Interventional cardiologist Paul McWhirter, MD, treats a wide range of heart-related conditions including coronary artery disease, heart failure, abnormal cardiac rhythm and valvular disease. With more than 35 years of experience, he specializes in implanting cardiac devices to help control or monitor irregular heartbeats.
Dr. McWhirter’s father, also a physician, challenged him to integrate his interest in science with a mission for healing, prompting him to pursue cardiology. He finds great fulfillment in “helping patients and families cope with the emotions of being ill and seeing smiling, happy faces on subsequent visits.”
Along with serving in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. McWhirter has held multiple academic and medical leadership positions, presented research at national conferences, and achieved honors, medals and awards for excellence. Away from work, he enjoys flying, swimming, tinkering and fixing things. He and his wife have two adult children.

He spends most of the time talking into his dictation at the computer. As a patient, one feels left out. If you ask questions he seems irritated sometimes.
