About The Provider
Board-certified gastroenterologist Christopher Orpiano, DO, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diseases and conditions affecting the liver, stomach, intestines and other digestive organs.
Inspired by the physicians who treated his father’s chronic medical conditions, Dr. Orpiano decided to pursue medicine as a career and says, “With the care he received, we were able to spend a number of years with my father after a coronary artery disease diagnosis and a stroke that left him disabled.”
He selected gastroenterology as his specialty because, “I love the procedural aspect of gastroenterology. Being able to diagnose and treat certain aliments endoscopically solidified my career. I have also always wanted to build an outpatient following and have rapport with my patients as I care and follow them for years to come.”
After earning a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine and time spent as a medical research assistant at one of San Francisco’s notable biotechnology companies, Dr. Orpiano moved to Florida for medical school and postdoctoral training.
There he earned his doctor of osteopathy at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale followed by a residency in internal medicine at Largo Medical Center and fellowship in gastroenterology at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson.
In addition to certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Orpiano is a member of several professional organizations. These include the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and American Osteopathic Association.
Previously, Dr. Orpiano participated in a mission trip to Jamaica to provide medical care to those with limited access to healthcare and mentored students from disadvantaged backgrounds interested in becoming physicians and practicing in underserved communities.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay area, he describes himself as a “die hard” Giants, Niners and Warriors fan. Other interests include staying active through CrossFit and boxing and exploring California’s many food offerings and activities.
