Andrew R Hultgren, PMHNP

Andrew Hultgren, MS, APRN-Rx, PMHNP-BC, brings a wealth of knowledge to his treatment of mental health issues. He is skilled as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, caring for adult patients by addressing individual concerns with customized treatment plan for each. Hultgren treats conditions such as mood, anxiety, obsessive, trauma, psychotic, and substance use disorders. He is also able to assist his patients in evaluation, diagnosis, medication management and brief psychotherapies.
Hultgren studied nursing at the University of California San Francisco where he earned his RN certificate, a Master of Science, and PMHNP training. He is certified as a PMHNP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and completed a year-long APRN residency in adolescent psychiatry. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and music from the University of Hawaii, Manoa in Honolulu.
Hultgren belongs to several professional organizations including the International Psychiatric Nurses, UCSF Alumni Association, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Hawaii Association of Professional Nurses member and the American Nurses Association. He also continues to hold a part-time faculty position in the UCSF School of Nursing.
Following his lifelong interest in human behavior, thought, learning and health, Hultgren pursued the field of nursing. He comes from a family of health care providers and educators. His passion lies in helping people find ways to improve their health and mental health which align with their values, interests and priorities. He understands that it is a privilege to speak with people about such personal and important aspects of their human experience.
When not working, he can be found surfing, playing music, hiking and spending time with family and friends. He and his wife are the proud “parents” of a "pandemic puppy" who is formally trained and certified as a psychiatric service animal.
